
Dr Gemma Dwyer (MBBS MPH FRACGP GDCH) (she/her/hers) is a specialist GP with a particular interest in women’s, adolescent and sexual health. Gemma provides IUD and hormonal implant insertions, medical terminations of pregnancy and insertion of pessaries for pelvic organ prolapse. She has completed her FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health at Family Planning Tasmania and has previously spent time working there. Gemma has a passion for working with mothers and babies throughout pregnancy and the first years of life. She offers GP shared antenatal care, as well as dedicated appointments to provide breastfeeding support. She has further training in breastfeeding medicine, including previously completing NDC/Possums training.
Gemma grew up in Hobart and studied medicine at the University of Tasmania, graduating in 2017. She became a Fellow of the RACGP in 2023. Alongside her clinical work, Gemma is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Tasmania and a Coordinator of Rural Medical Placement for the Hobart Clinical School which includes regularly teaching medical students at all year levels. She also holds a Master of Public Health and a Graduate Diploma in Child Health. Outside of work Gemma enjoys reading, sewing, and learning piano.
Gemma currently works Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at Derwent Valley Medical Centre.
