GP Shared Antenatal Care is a model of care during pregnancy where your GP provides medical care during and after your pregnancy, alongside care and delivery at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

If you are having a low-risk pregnancy, and are interested in having the convenience and continuity of care with your doctor then this may be a great option for you. GP shared antenatal care is an option for those who prefer to have pregnancy care with their regular doctor but may not have private health insurance coverage to see a private obstetrician.

Our fees are laid out under our Fees and Costs page. This type of pregnancy care will cost more than being seen solely at the Royal Hobart Hospital, however, it will cost less than seeing a private obstetrician.

GP shared antenatal care involves having monthly appointments until 30 weeks of pregnancy, then fortnightly until 36 weeks, then weekly until delivery. It also will include postpartum follow-up once you have delivered. You are still seen at the Royal Hobart Hospital a few times during your pregnancy, and will deliver there too.

If you have any further questions about this model of pregnancy care, then please do not hesitate to discuss with your doctor.
